Health Unit Coordinator/EKG Monitoring Technician

The Health Unit Coordinator/EKG Monitor Technician program prepares individuals to be unit secretaries and cardiac monitor technicians in hospitals and clerical staff in physicians' offices, outpatient surgical units and nursing homes.
Learn Valuable Industry Skills!
Students will become familiar with the cardiovascular system, application of telemetry equipment and recognize normal/abnormal electrical cardiac activity. Students are introduced to the clinical area early in the program and proceed sequentially, correlating classroom theory and selected clinical application.
Emphasis is placed on accuracy, interpersonal skills, and the moral, legal, and ethical implications relative to employment in a medical facility.Topics will include history of the Health Care Unit Coordinator, Health Care Unit Profession, medical law, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, instruction in hospital admittance, medical charts and forms, performing data entries, transcription of physician's orders, coordinating diagnostic testing, intercultural communication in the healthcare setting, prioritizing diagnostic tests, lab orders, and x-rays, ensuring patient confidentiality. Students will learn various medical electronic record keeping programs, perform routine quality assurance on charts.
Students will also learn EKG monitor techniques and technologies for tracking patients in an inpatient setting. Concepts learned are of cardiac rhythms, EKG machine preparation, 12 lead EKG interpretation, electrodes, the cardiovascular system, heart rates and procedures for reporting to the appropriate medical profession in the event a patient shows changes.

Open to Seniors and must be at least 17 1/2 yrs old
Adults
Completion of a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or GED (translated into English)

Complete in 1 Semester: T/Th from 7:00pm - 9:45pm (HYBIRD)
