SoCal ROC Students Shine at the 11th Annual “A Night of All Stars”

On April 27, 2017, Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SoCal ROC) recognized 24 high school and adult students for their outstanding achievements in Career Technical Education. The annual “A Night of All Stars” awards dinner was held at the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel in Redondo Beach. SoCal ROC broadcasted the event live on Facebook. Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-South Bay) was in attendance. He gave special remarks in which he spoke of SoCal ROC’s commitment to providing quality programs that are preparing students for the industry. He also praised the scholarship recipients for their accomplishments. Assemblymember Muratsuchi spoke of his confidence in the value of SoCal ROC programs. He mentioned the possibility of having Governor Brown visit the Center in an effort to secure funding. He presented each scholarship recipient with a certificate.

John Saia, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) consultant, was honored as the “Shining Star” recipient. Mr. Saia was recognized for his assistance in providing the Automotive program with services such as connecting SoCal ROC with companies for Externship opportunities and providing resources to encourage students to continue their education at a post-secondary institution. More impressive is the fact that this organization has provided SoCal ROC with seven GMC vehicles, including a Cadillac Escalade. This has given our students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with modern cars.

This year’s scholarships were sponsored by the following: Beach Cities Masonic Lodge, Law Offices of Eric Bathen, Barbara Lucky, Esq., Omid and Sharon Kalani/Redondo Beach Towing, Dr. & Mrs. Norman Sakura, Wendy Ida, The Farquhar Family, Torrance Lions Club, SoCal ROC Employees Group, SoCal ROC Management Team, SoCal ROC Recognition Program, and "The Vette Set."
