Dr. Jennifer Pesavento has been a certificated teacher at a variety of grade levels and in various subject areas in Illinois and California for ten years; however, the majority of her K-12 teaching experience is as a high school English teacher in California. As Dr. Pesavento has experience from alternative school teaching, to coteaching high numbers of students on Individualized Education Plans, to teaching and leading in the Gifted and Talented Education programs, she understands the role of every classroom teacher in the larger context of society to provide educational opportunities for all students. Dr. Pesavento comes to SCROC with six years of site administrator experience, including four years as a high school vice principal with grades six through twelve and two years as an elementary school principal with grades transitional kindergarten through six. Dr. Pesavento’s goal is to encourage teachers and support pathways where they can be agents of increased social justice and equity to decrease the learning gap between various demographic groups.

Dr. Pesavento earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (2010) through University of California San Diego and California State University San Marcos. She has a Master’s of Science in Educational Administration (2005) and a Bachelor’s of Science in English Education (2001) from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She has also taken numerous other courses at various institutions, which even include a summer studying abroad in Costa Rica. Dr. Pesavento grew up in the City of Chicago and its southwest suburbs and moved to California in the summer of 2005. She enjoys travelling, reading for fun, and spending time with her friends and Labradoodles, Charlie and Clementine.
