Current research indicates that many people are looking to change careers or upgrade skills post pandemic. According to a survey reported in Forbes magazine last year, one in four workers is preparing to switch jobs. SoCal ROC is the perfect place to train for a new career, especially with so many jobs currently available.

SoCal ROC is fully accredited and serves both adult learners and local high school students. Training courses for in-demand careers are offered in a number of fields that can get students into good-paying jobs in as little as three to six months for some programs.

This fall, courses will be offered in the following programs: Automotive Technician, General Electrician, Welding, Cosmetology, Fashion Design, Clinical Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Front Office, Sterile Processing Distribution Technician, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), Graphic Design, Video Game and Character Design, Veterinary Assisting, Kinesiology, Pharmacy Technician, and more. Some courses require completion of prerequisites, so please inquire about prerequisites prior to enrollment.

Fall course fees range between $250 and $4,600 (majority of courses cost between $500-$1,000), plus additional material costs for some courses. Individuals with an annual income of $34,000 or less qualify for a 20 percent discount on course fees. SoCal ROC also refers interested students to agencies that offer financial assistance if eligibility requirements are met.

SoCal ROC courses are free for local high school students enrolled in our partner school districts including El Segundo Unified, Inglewood Unified, Manhattan Beach Unified, Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified, Redondo Beach Unified, and Torrance Unified. High school students may contact Rocio Pineda-Contreras, SoCal ROC career guidance specialist, to enroll at 310-224-4240 or email: [email protected]

According to a study published in 2022, two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, half of high schoolers are no longer considering four-year college. More than half are open to a path other than four-year college, and because of the pandemic, one-third say they are more comfortable with following a shorter pathway. Despite that, 85 percent say they feel pressure to pursue a four-year degree.

With 73 percent of high school students believing a direct path to a career is essential in postsecondary education, SoCal ROC is the perfect solution for the changing views and needs of those looking for accelerated career pathways.
