Cedars-Sinai Co-Hosted the Annual Spring Blood Drive

Student giving blood

The Southern California Regional Occupational Center and SoCal ROC’s Chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) sponsored the annual spring blood drive with Cedars-Sinai Mobile Donor Unit. The event was held at SoCal ROC on May 17, 2016.

SoCal ROC’s Chapter of HOSA coordinated the logistics with Cedars-Sinai Mobile Donor Unit. Prior to the blood drive, the HOSA members visited classrooms to encourage eligible SoCal ROC students and staff to donate blood. During the blood drive, the HOSA members assisted with the donor check-in process, replenishing the snacks, and distributing donor T-shirts.

Ninety-six students and staff members signed up to donate blood; seventy units of blood were collected. The blood will be used for life-saving medical treatments for patients suffering from the following health conditions: cancer, leukemia, and severe burns. The blood that was donated will also be used for transplant procedures, premature babies, victims of traumatic injuries and accidents, and patients undergoing surgery.

HOSA is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. In January 2013, SoCal ROC formed a HOSA chapter for students enrolled in the School of Health Sciences. Throughout the year, the SoCal ROC HOSA Chapter coordinates activities related to the health-care industry.
